Turunc is well placed to explore the surrounding area. This can be done in a variety of ways – depending how adventurous you are – dolmus (local bus service)is one way – and can be flagged down at any time, local boat co-operative operate services to Icemeler, Marmaris, Amos Bay & Kumbuluk. Car hire is easily available within Turunc for those who wish to explore further a field. A good day out can be had with a trip to Rhodes – using the Hydrofoil service from Marmaris – all tour operators offer this from Turunc transferring via Marmaris – costing £30.00 approx.

There are well signed walks within the surrounding hills of Turunc for the really adventurous – make sure that you have the right equipment and enough water with you!  The walk to Amos Bay / Kumbuluk is worth doing!  There is plenty of wildlife to observe in this area, Eagles, Falcons, Owls, Boar, and Deer etc.

Another recommended day out is the 5 bay boat trip run by local boat owners – a great way to meet people, get a great start for a tan, seeing the surrounding coastline and swimming in some wonderful locations – all for £10.00 including a great barbecue lunch. Drinks are available – and moderately priced. I recommend the Doganay Boat skippered by Cetin Zeybeck – he takes you to the less visited bays – and can be booked through the Demirel Tour travel agency in the village.  You might get lucky and spot a Dolphin, see some flying fish and watch the eagles soaring above the coastline.

If you fancy a Rhodes trip – Demirel Tour can arrange this for you. Tours further afield can be arranged through a number of local tour operators/agencies within Turunc. J&M Travel is well worth a visit, and offers a good selection of tours / excursions – from 4 wheel off roading, or to cultural sites such as Ephesus.  The tours offered by J&M Travel have been expanded this year - and they are now doing tours along the Loryma/Bozburun peninsula - the scenery is stunning and Selmiye, Bozburun and Osmanuiye are worth a day out. June and her husband, Murat, are well known to those who return to Turunc year after year, they offer a first class Tour & Excursion service!  Visit J&M Travel by clicking on this link www.jmturkey.com

Trips to Ephesus can be arranged at all the local tour operators in the village - and the prices are much the same wherever you go - these can be a full day excursion or an overnight stay - depending really on what you want to do - usually the overnight stay will include a trip to Pamukkale Springs - also known as Cotton Fortress.  Ephesus is a World Heritage Site, whose history can be traced back to 11th Century BC.  The site is vast - and there is a lot more archaeological work to be done to unearth other remains.

A day out to Dalyan / Kaunos is highly recommended - better still hire a vehicle with a local driver - it gives you a lot more flexibility!  Prices can always be negotiated - but I would recommend you talk to Gihan Bayri who might be able to offer you a deal!!  Dalyan / Kaunos is a brilliant day - with opportunities to see the famous Turtle Beach, Dalyan River Trip and the ancient Tombs of Kaunos.   It is even possible to hire a small Gulet for a couple of days if you fancy a mini Blue Cruise to explore the Loryma / Dacta Peninsula. All tours should include local insurance arrangements – I recommend that you check this out when booking.

Further a field is the wonderful area of Cappodocia in Central Anotolia - accessible by coach travel to Konya - some 12 hours away.  The most amazing specialty of Cappodocia is the underground cities which are still being discovered.  The ones in Kaymakli and Derinkuyu are the most famous.  These cities have floors 8 - 9 levels underground, completely carved out of volcanic tuff - there are examples of engineering and construction which astound the archaeologists today!

Coach travel in Turkey is cheap, reliable and surprisingly pleasant!  So don't be put off - in this area of Turkey it is the most common form of transportation. It also allows you to sample and appreciate the beauty and vastness of this country - something that a lot of tourist's miss out on.
